Pol Roger non-vintage Reserve Brut

We sampled this tasty champagne at our “Northern Rhone” class  on October 15th with Greg Taylor from Frederick Wildman wines.

I know it’s not from Rhone, but we tried it anyways!  I’ll tell you up front, I am a champagne chick all the way!  I really fell in love with this bubbly which is an equal blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes (1 is white, 2 are black grapes).  To me, it had a nice light effervescence to it, not overloaded with bubbles, and a slight minerality (think: licking a stone) with toastiness thrown in too.  The finish (the taste that is left in your mouth after swallowing) was very soft, almost a little creamy.  Wow, was this Champagne ever great!!  It comes in at around $43, but for the holidays coming up, it’s one to splurge on!
