E. Guigal Cotes du Rhone Blanc, France
Ever since taking the WSET class at the culinary center, I’ve wanted to try more French wines, as I now know what grapes are the wines. I think many folks are put off by imported wines that are named after their regions because they have no clue what the wine is made of. This Cotes du Rhone Blanc had been taunting me on the shelf. The label doesn’t really do a whole lot to sell me on it, but I figured out that because it’s from Southern Rhone, it was going to be a Viognier base, blended with some Marsanne and Rousanne. It’s medium bodied and is very aromatic. It’s got some citrus stuff going on too; think lemons and oranges. It’s a little minerally on the finish too. I literally could not get enough of this wine! The only thing I’m left asking afterwards is, “Can you put it in a 5L box version for me?”
