Hermann Wiemer Cuvee Frost
Hermann Wiemer Cuvee Frost
Oh spring, how you tease us! You come in here blowing your 80 degree breezes and then snap! It’s 45 degrees the next day. I’m sorry, but spring… you suck. Give me summer and fall and I’m a happy whinechick. In the midst of all our glorious “summer-like” weather, I decided to throw a bottle of the Cuvee Frost into my whinechick-blinged out, eco-chic wine-bag from Ryan’s. As always, I’m game for trying out anything for under $10, and its from Wiemer. Did you know they were named a Top Winery of the Year for 2009 by Wine & Spirits magazine? How could I go wrong? The 2008 vintage is a blend of a Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Noir and has a touch of sweetness to it (about 1.5% r.s.). The first thing I noticed is how it just kind of melts into your mouth and is so smooth and silky and round, with just a nice little bit of acidity to keep it all in check. I think a bottle of this would be perfect to bring over to that new Japanese Steakhouse in the plaza next to Ryan’s, Sakura. They don’t have a liquor license yet so you can bring your own bottle in there. The little bit of sweetness and acidity in the wine would go great with Asian dishes. For the best experience, get a reservation for the grill seating, you’ll have lots of fun! Just beware of flying vegetables landing in your wine.
This is a seriously great springtime/summertime/deck wine and quite possibly one to use in a summer sunshine dance to the gods. Perhaps if we all pick up a bottle of this and go outside dancing with a glass in hand extended to the skies, that 80 degree weather will be back in no time!
