Eagle Crest Dry Riesling

If anyone reads my “What I’m Crushin’ On” wine picks on a weekly basis, or even my blogs, you’ll notice I never really reviewed New York wines.  Quite honestly, it was no accident.  I’ll be writing all about that in my feature blog next week entitled,  ”How I went from a New York junkie to a New York flunkie”.   This month at Ryan’s we are celebrating Finger Lakes wines and are focusing our wine classes on them.  Trust me, the more I taste, the more I’m getting back into them!  (Don’t boo hiss me yet just yet, my next blog will be a good one!)

Eagle Crest Dry Riesling (Hemlock):  You know how you read those “flowery” sounding wine descriptions on the back of a label that tell you how that bottle of wine will be just short of life changing and you’ll go from blonde to brunette after drinking it?  Well, this isn’t one of them.  But when Will (the owner of Eagle Crest and all around GREAT guy!) told us that scents of fresh lilacs could be detected in this wine, I never dreamed he would be so spot on!  This Riesling smells like the vineyard must have been surrounded by lilac bushes!  The grapes were sourced from over on Cayuga Lake near Thirsty Owl vineyards.  Eagle Crest had been making sacremental wine since the late 1800′s (thats how they stayed in business during Prohibition) and still do to this day.  I was SO impressed with every one of their wines!  Perhaps their vineyards and wines are getting a “nod of approval” from a higher power?
